How to Play Craps |
There are a number of different distinct phases to a game of craps and understanding exactly what these phases are will allow you to understand how to play craps. The first phase is the phase of pre-roll betting, when everyone makes their bets on the bets that are available before the shooter actually starts rolling. There are quite a few bets available at this stage, but the most important one for beginners to know about is the pass line bet. This bet allows you to win if the shooter rolls a seven or an eleven, lose if they roll a two, three or twelve and if any other number is rolled, the bet then becomes one that the number is rolled again before a seven is rolled. This is one of the best bets in terms of odds that the casino offers and this is why it is the most important bet for the beginner to know about.
Once all of the pre-roll betting has been done, the shooter rolls the dice. If any numbers aside from two, three, seven, eleven or twelve get rolled, then a point is established for further rolling. If one of those numbers is rolled, then the resolutions mentioned above are carried out and the game goes back to the pre-roll betting round.
The point, quite simply put, is the number that needs to be rolled again before a seven is rolled in order for people to win their pass line bets. Therefore, the farther away the number is from seven when the point is established, the lower the actual chances of winning the hand since seven is the most frequently occurring number when two dice are rolled in tandem.
Post-roll betting is as varied as pre-roll betting, allowing you to bet on different numbers or groups of numbers being rolled by the shooter. You can also make a number of exotic bets such as the big six bet, but most of these exotic bets come at a very deep disadvantage to the player and are best to be avoided until you have progressed past the beginner's stage of craps. |
